GIS4Mobile app - The Map Collector
GIS4Mobile apps are used by people in the field to record / collect data, and to view and update existing data.
Configurations enable different functions for each user group.
Read about new version 3 of the app here.
Installation
For installation instructions, see the download page .
GIS4Mobile app.
The GIS4Mobile app is used to work with geographic data to georelate information.
It works against GIS4Mobile Cloud Service , where stored data is stored.
If your mobile device is not connected to the network, data is stored on the device until there is a network connection, where data is then uploaded to the GIS4Mobile Cloud Service.
Using GIS4Mobile is really easy.
When you work, you will see a map and a status bar and 5 buttons that control the application:
The status bar informs about the current zoom (diagonal meter) and the active layer for registrations.
The five buttons have these features:
- Synchronize data.
- Zoom to GPS.
- Select background map and data layers.
- Data Registration - Opens a new form for entering information and attaching images.
- Menu - Displays a menu with different settings and functions.
In the Settings menu, the version of the installed app, as well as the User ID, appears.
In this menu, the user must enter the username and associated password of his user profile. The user profile defines which features, maps and data are available to this user.
The user profile is designed by the administrator, via config.gis4mobile.com .
In the menu there are several other options.
Background map and data
When working with GIS4Mobile, you always see a background map.
The card may be one of the known google maps, or openstreet maps, or your own card, which is displayed via WMS. In Denmark, it may also be card available on the card.
If you are unable to display maps via a WMS service, GIS4Mobile can help establish this.
Collection of data
With the GIS4Mobile app, you can record data in the field.
Points, lines and polygons can be registered, and a number of text information, as well as pictures, are associated with each registration.
Exactly what to enter depends on the setup in your user profile.
When data is recorded, it appears on the card. The items can be displayed in different colors, according to data being recorded.
As an example - if you register fire hydrants, the color may change when the individual faucet is checked.
Data forms can be designed with many types of input elements:
- Text box, (optional or required).
- Check-in (yes / no).
- Dropdown menus - also 2-level dropdown (select category and detailed).
- Date Selector.
- Multi-select dropdowns.
- Labels (readonly) - that can link to a web document.
- Associate photos.
The registration form can also have a button row, with some features:
- Delete registration
- Move Position (Point / Line / Flat)
- Save data in memory. 3 memories are available for storing information.
- Download data from memory and fill out the current form.
- Send via email. Allows you to send a link to a recipient, who can view data and images.
- Navigate to this - Opens the route calculation app and guides you to that position.
When a registration is completed, data is immediately sent to the GIS4Mobile Cloud Service, where data is stored in a secure and robust way, from which data can be transferred to your GIS, or viewed online using maps.gis4mobile.com .
No network? no problem!
If you work somewhere where there is no internet access, for example due to poor mobile coverage, you can still work with GIS4Mobile.
If there is no connection to a network, the background card can not be retrieved. However, registrations can be performed without background maps, via GPS position only. When you get near a network, your registration is saved.
However, there is also an option to ensure that the mobile device has a background map stored in advance. The built-in off-line data manager can help you pre-generate a card database on your mobile device.
Info on site: click for info.
With this feature, the app lets you click somewhere on the map, then it switches to a page where information about that location is displayed.
Primary freely available information is shown:
- Z-level and coordinates. The Z-level are retrieved via Google.
- Nearest address.
- Other available data.
- WMS feature info.
Information can be retrieved from a WMS map, via feature info call.
In addition, data that you will make available will be displayed-contact us for more information about this.
Productivity
We have made every effort to make GIS4Mobile as easy to use as possible. For large data collection tasks, we minimized the need for repeated input of the same data with these features:
Multi edit
With multi edit, you can select many items on the screen and edit these together. For example, if you perform tree supervision, you may find that a large number of trees have the same state. Once you have selected a number of items, you can edit these together and set the information you choose to be updated.
Save and retrieve attributes.
If you think you're entering the same set of data over and over again, you can save a data set and retrieve it later, using the "M +" and "MR" buttons.
Repeat data
When registering inventory, you may want certain fields to be automatically filled in with the same value as entered in the previous item. This can be controlled by setting up user profiles where you can choose which fields should have a default value and which fields should repeat the previous entry.
